Abstract This article explores the theoretical strands and methodological possibilities for study of consumption popular print in pre-modern age. The first section general approaches cross-disciplinary angles to field. second looks at core methodologies approaching multi-faceted issue print. third offers a comparative discussion pan-European themes, including literacy schooling, sociality reading consumption, weight restrictions emancipation regulating access print, materialities as physical, multisensory experience.
